Tattooed, Employed…and Growing

Itâs that time of year, the âBest ofâ shows have finished and everyone is taking stock of how 2012 was for them personally and Career wise. For most, 2012 didnât seem like your typical year of highs and lows in Love, Health, Religion, Politics, Humanity and Careers.
2012 Highs and Lows
We had highs like the Olympics, the Presidential race (depending on who you wanted to win) and incredible lows such as Hurricane Sandy, the shocking details of Jerry Sandusky and way too many Gun related tragedies including Sandy Hook.
When New Yearâs Day finally arrived it seemed from Facebook posts, Tweets, etc. that everyone was letting out a massive âThank Goodness thatâs overâ. Thatâs the polite translation of FML. The flip side of those Halleluiahs were many stating enthusiastic projections for the future – one even focusing on making 2013 their bitch. Now thatâs a motivated man!
For those in the Performance Marketing industry there was no exceptions from the ups and downs of 2012. Some felt Sandyâs wrath, lost possessions, some dealt with a sick child, some lost jobs as businesses closed and sadly some lost loved ones. As time went on you witnessed one incredible challenge after another and it seemed like there was no light in sight…but there was. All you had to do was look around. In my particular case, my networks are full of people from the Performance Marketing industry and what I saw consistently was Resiliency, Determination and an Entrepreneurial spirit to never give up. These were People that appreciated the value of every single hour and always looked forward.
Every Day is a Money Day
There are many mottos that could be used for the Performance Marketing industry but two of my favorites are: 9-5 is the first shift of the day and Every Day is a Money Day.
That daily focus and entrepreneurial spirit shines through when you meet people in the Performance Marketing. First off, they donât âworkâ typical hours. In fact I donât even think they consider it work, as they are on a mission to cut their own path, create their own retirement plan and advance their industry. Their passion and enthusiasm for life is evident when you attend shows like Affiliate Summit, LeadsCon and Ad:Tech.
What is also on display is an incredible display of fine jewelry, tattoos, loud bubble bee shirts and bottle service as well. Why? Because every show is a celebration of the big personalities in the industry and great networking opportunities. At these shows Work hard, play hard takes on a new meaning.

We might be tattooed but according to Forrester, who is projecting that the affiliate/performance marketing industry will grow to an estimated $4.5 billion dollars by 2016, weâre employed…and growing.
Take a look around; if you see someone with Tattoos, a loud shirt or lots of bling, go over and introduce yourself, they are likely to make your company a huge success.
